Gene Thomas - TROOP A - SCOUTMASTER

Gene Thomas

Gene has been active in the Boy Scouts of America as both a youth and an adult.  He has served boys at all levels of the scouting family of programs at the unit level as Webelos leader, Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster, Varsity Team Coach, and Scout Committee Chairman.  He has served as a volunteer in Bigfoot District as District Advancement Committee Chairman and District Commissioner, and is a recipient of the District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver Award.

Gene is Wood Badge trained and served on the staff of several Wood Badge courses including Course Director. 

Gene was an Assistant Scoutmaster for a Jamboree Troop from Ore-Ida Council attending the 2005 Boy Scout National Scout Jamboree in Virginia, and served on the staff of the 2007 World Scout Jamboree in England. 

He has also served in several positions as a volunteer with the Ore-Ida Council.  He served seven years as Council Advancement Committee Chairman and on the Council Advisory Board.  He currently serves as the Ore-Ida Council Commissioner, is a member of the Council Board of Directors and the Council Executive Committee. 

He has served as a member of the Area Camp Visitation Team visiting scout camps and certifying their compliance with BSA camping standards. 

Gene and his wife, Chris, are the parents of a daughter and two sons.  Their sons have both earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Steve Jung - TROOP A - 2nd ASSISTANT SCOUTMASTER

Steve Jung

A Scout and Scouter for more than 33 years, Steve joined Scouting in 1961 where he earned his Arrow of Light, became an Eagle Scout, was active in Order of the Arrow, went on into Explorers where he completed two treks to Philmont Scout Ranch and two trips to the Charles L. Sommers Wilderness Canoe Base.

Steve and his wife, Becky, have five children, Joy, Marc, Bonnie, Joel and Anna.  As an active leader, both sons Marc and Joel followed the same path as their father through Cub Scouts and each earned their Eagle Award in Boy Scouts.  Steve with them and their troop planned, organized and completed two 50 mile treks at Philmont, one 100 mile trek at the Charles L. Sommers National High Adventure Base (part of what is now called Northern Tier), and this last summer as a Venturing Leader completed the Keys Adventure at the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base on the Florida Keys.

Steve has earned the Den Leader, Webelos Leader and Scout Leader Training Knots, and his Woodbadge beads.  In addition Steve has been awarded the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver Award  and the Venturing Leadership Award.  Having been to all of the National High Adventure Bases, Steve is one of the few in the Ore-Ida Council to have earned the Triple Crown Award.  Steve has also earned the 250 days and nights National Camping Award and has a 5th trek to Philmont Scout Ranch scheduled for the summer of 2009.

Steve currently holds the positions of Committee Chairman for Troop 112, Associate Advisor of Crew 77  and is a member of the Advancement Committee in Bigfoot District and also an Eagle Reviewer.

Steve has assisted his wife as a 4H Leader and Girl Scout Leader.  Steve's oldest daughter has earned her Bronze, Silver and Gold Girl Scout Awards. 

Steve looks forwards to being part of taking scouts to the 2010 National Jamboree in Virginia.  Helping our nation celebrate 100 Year of Scouting is an honor and a privilege for which he is honored to be a part of.
