Protestant Scouting Religious Award Program
We are offering the Scouting Religious Awards classes again this year. These programs are available for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, and Camp Fire, or any youth interested (including those not in a scouting program). In the Protestant faiths, the God and Country program has four levels.
Your scout can complete one or all of the levels. They do not need to have started at the God and Me level. They should enroll in the level appropriate for their grade.
God and Me Grades 1-3 God and Family Grades 4-5 Tuesdays 6:30-8:00 Thursdays 6:00-7:30 March 6, 13 20, 27, April 3 March 8, 15, 22, 29 April 5, 12, 19, 26
God and Church Grades 6-8 God and Life Grades 9-12 Thursdays 7:30-8:30 Takes 6-12 months to complete March 8, 15, 22, 29 Classes set up with participants. April 5, 12, 19, 26 .
Two Saturdays will be set up for work days to complete service hours for the God & Church and God & Life classes.
Classes will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Highway 50 in O'Fallon. God and Life classes are not listed for dates as that program takes six months to a year and we meet on an individual basis around the high school student's schedule.
The classes are not required to receive the awards. The programs were designed to be completed by the family at home. We've found the classes keep the scouts on track, promoting a higher completion rate. It is also easier to complete projects when working in groups.
There are student, counselor and mentor workbooks available. If your pastor would like a book, or any parent would like to complete the mentor program along with their son or daughter, please let us know.
The workbooks cost $3.50 and every scout must have one. We will have the books at the first class and they can be paid for at that time. This is why we must have registrations in for the classes in advance.
To register, give us a call at home 632-5943, or at the church 632-2354 (ask for Joan) by February 23, 2007 and provide the following information: - Name of scout, - phone number, - grade in school, - which church you attend. The award prices are $8 to $9 per scout, depending on the age and uniform requirements.
