Pack Meetings
There are four main types of meetings in Cub Scouts
and they all have different schedules and different purposes. These four
meetings are Pack Nights, Den Meetings, Pack Outings, Committee and Roundtable
meetings—the last two are for adults only.

The biggest meetings are the monthly Pack Nights
where all Scouts and their families are invited to attend. We have about 25 Scouts in our Pack, so these can get kind of lively at times, but it’s
a whole lot of fun.
Pack Nights are held once a month during the school
year, usually the 3rd Monday of the month. All Scouts, parents, and siblings
of all ages meet in Monroe Road School Cafeteria at 7 p.m. and last about
an hour, sometimes more. A Cub Scout should wear his uniform to Den Meetings,
Pack Nights, and all Scout outings.
There are several reasons for Pack Nights:
-
Gives the Scouts a chance to display their completed
projects and show off what they’ve learned to their friends and family.
-
The Scouts receive awards, badges, and other recognition
for their hard work during the past month.
-
It promotes family communication and fun.
-
To communicate other aspects of Scouting and upcoming
events such as campouts, upcoming field trips, training, etc.
-
To build an appreciation that Scouts are part of
a community and that good citizenship means caring about your friends and
neighbors.
Each month we also do activities such as perform
skits, tell jokes, sing songs, and do crafts. Dens take turns performing
the flag ceremony, acting as host, and performing a short skit dealing
with the theme of the month.

Meetings
Pack Nights are fun, but it’s too hard to learn
anything with so many boys from different ages in one room. Since Scouting
is designed around activities that are age-appropriate to a boy’s development,
most of the “real”activities are done at the Den level. A Den is comprised
of 6-10 boys of the same grade level who will be in the same group all
the way through Cub Scouts. Right now, we have 7 Dens, but that number
changes every year.
Den meetings are small gatherings, usually held
once per week for older scouts in 4th & 5th grades, every two weeks
for Scouts in younger grade levels. Den meetings are held at flexible times
and are arranged to meet the needs of the Scouts, their parents, and the
availability of leaders. Days, times, and meeting places are all decided
upon by the parents and Den Leader. These intimate group meetings can be
after school, in the evenings or weekends—whatever works best for the group.
They can also be held wherever the parents decide. Den meetings can be
held in a home, a central meeting place (i.e., school, church), or the
meetings can sometimes be a field trip like visiting a police station,
fire station, or a wilderness sanctuary.
Some of our Den Leaders also provide a brief newsletter
to keep parents informed. If they do, please take a few minutes to read
this as it reminds you what activities are coming up and what materials
will be required for the next den meetings, requirements, and deadlines.
A Cub Scout should wear his uniform to Den Meetings,
Pack Nights, and all Scout outings.

Pack outings usually occur once per month at other
area locations and are fun events designed to be enjoyable for the whole family.
Previous events include: hayrides, bowling, ice skating, sledding, hikes, Putt
Putt Golf, Petting Zoo, and family camping. See Pack
Outings for the latest calendar.
