Last year we had doughnuts (donated by one of the parents)
  4. 9:00 AM – Parade starts
  5. After Parade – parents pick up their kids (at Mid Rivers Mall).  Buses will be waiting at Brown Road Park to take walkers back to Mid Rivers Mall (new in '07)

Notes
Themes:
  1. 2005 – “Scouting Is Fun” with a Camping Scene on the float:
    1. Tent at the back of the float, our “fake fire” in the middle with the younger boys sitting around it “roasting” marshmallows.
    2. We stored our extra candy and a cooler with water inside the tent.
    3. The boys colored posters on Friday night with other Cub Scout Events on them (pinewood derby, etc.); the posters were taped to the sides of the trailer.
    4. Additional decorations included streamers, balloons, Den Flags in each corner of the trailer, poster advertising School Night on the back of the tent, “Pack” and “30” on the trailer wheels.
  2. 2006 – “Scouting Is Fun” with a Fishing Derby Scene on the float:
    1. Kids swimming pool in the middle of the float as the fishing pond.
Ice & bottled water in the pool.
Boys wore red bandanas instead of their neckerchiefs – soaked them in the ice/water to keep cool.
    2. Used minnow buckets to keep the candy in.
    3. Boys colored posters on Friday night to put on the trailer: “Scouting Is Fun”, “Fishing Derby”, and “Pack 30”.
    4. Additional decorations included: streamers, balloons, Boys had fishing poles with craft fish on them, craft fish on the trailer & jeep.
  3. Suggestion for 2007 – “Scouting Is Fun” with a Rocket Launch Scene on the float.  Hand out paper airplanes (or rockets, or something) with School Night To Join Scouting advertised on them.  Lots of people hand out candy during the parade – this could be something different.
  4. Suggestion for 2007 – “Scouts Rock” with a Rock Band theme; Scouts with musical instruments, etc.
Parade rules state anyone under the age of 10 must ride – cannot walk.
  1. We use the rule that the Webelos walk (tan uniform) and everyone else rides (blue uniforms).
Boys & Leaders wear their Uniforms.
We hand out the candy – cannot throw it.
The parade route is about 2 miles long & it will be hot – need plenty of water & encourage the boys to drink it.
  1. If any of the walkers get tired and want to ride, make sure the float is stopped and the driver knows someone is getting in or out of the float.
The boys on the float need to sit – they cannot stand.
NO ONE can ride on the trailer back to the mall:
  1. Need to arrange for parents to pick up their kids at the end of the parade route, or carpool back to the mall parking lot.  New in 2007 -- buses will be waiting at Brown Road Park to take walkers back to Mid Rivers Mall.
