Tote & Chip
The tote & chip card is required for all scouts. It is a training program for knife, axe, and the saw. All Scouts are required to complete the tote & chip in order to use and handle woods tools. These requirements ensure that a Scout has had instruction into the proper way to use, handle, and sharpen woods tools. They are as follows:
- Read and understand the Boy Scout Handbook information on the safe use of woods tools.
- Demonstrate proper handling, care, and use of the pocketknife, ax, and saw.
- Knives, axes, and saws are serious tools. Use them only when you are willing to give them your full attention.
- Respect property. Cut living and dead trees only with permission and with good reason.
- Use woods tools in such a way that you leave no trace.
I realize that my "totin' rights" can be taken from me if I fail to follow these requirements.
Only Scouts who have demonstrated that they have completed and understand these rules and requirements are issued the Tote & Chip card.
