Our history
Troop 13 is the oldest active troop in Oxford and celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2003. The Troop meets every Thursday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the Oxford Youth Cabin on the corner of Wheeler Blvd. and Lincoln St. There is no meeting if there is no school. Uniforms are to be worn to meetings.
In addition to weekly meetings, a weekend activity is planned every month during the year. Trips include bike trips, backpack trips, car race weekend, rocketry, skiing and many more. The Troop attends summer camp at Camp Horseshoe from Sunday to Sunday, the second week of July every year.
Courts of Honor are held at least twice a year. The Court is held to award rank advancements and merit badges to scouts. Parents are encouraged to attend. Court of Honor is always held at the Annual Banquet in the spring and at a regular meeting in September.
The Scouts are divided into patrols with a Patrol Leader and Assistant. The Senior Patrol Leader and his two Assistants oversee and plan the meetings and Activities. The Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters (interested parents/guardians) provide adult leadership.
Scouting began in the Oxford area in 1911, with the formation of Troop 1. The first Scoutmaster was Norman Alexander and his assistant was Dr. Kelly. There were about 12 boys in the troop in its first year. Troop 1 was the first troop in Southern Chester County.
Some time around 1924, Troop 3 was also formed in the Oxford area. Troop 1 and Troop 3 merged in 1928. At the time of the merger, the troop numbers 1 and 3 were also combined, creating Troop 13.*
