Troop Committee Meeting Minutes

 

The regular meeting of the Committee Members was held on Tuesday February 24th, 2009, at the Oxford Fire Hall (kitchenette). The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. by Bill Day, Chairperson.

SPECIAL GUEST:

CHAIRMAN — Bill Day reported:

Christmas Tree Sales went very well. Paperwork was turned over to Treasurer, Kelly Vining, but was not discussed.

SCOUTMASTER - Pops Griffin reported:

Ongoing problems with Chester County Council and the District Executive

Webelos Pack 252 plan to crossover 5 to 6 scouts and join Troop #13. Ceremony will take place at the cabin on Thursday, March 12th.

Mark Groseclose presented a Powerpoint presentation on Eagle Scouts and their accomplishments/contributions to our society and country. It was very well done and received by the Scouts.

Upcoming Events include:

February 26th meeting — Cleaning the cabin; began to plan the update of plaques and awards around the cabin as incentive for current Scouts.

OUTDOORS - Ray Ramberger reported:

Upcoming Activities:

February 27th — March 1st : Sledding at Hunting Cabin — CANCELLED due to lack of interest.

March 13th — 15th : Gettysburg Trip

April 17th — 19th : Canoe Trip (tentative date) Jim George to handle

May 1st — 3rd : French Creek / Orienteering

June TBA : OARA work weekend

July 12th — 19th : BSA Summer Camp

August 13th — 19th : Sea Base, Becky George to handle

August ?: Activity for the scouts who are ineligible to participate in Sea Base High Adventure. Circle M was suggested by Jim Jordan.

Council now requires that an adult in the Troop must be Weather Safety Certified, Matt D'Antonio volunteered to take the online certification.

Trips more than 50 miles away from Cabin, must file a National Tour Permit for trips.

ADVANCEMENT —Jim George reported:

Kurt Russell —Eagle Board of Review scheduled for march 10th; various committee members have agreed to sit on board.

Completed Boards of Review: February 19th:

One Tenderfoot Scout— Rank of 2nd Class Scout

One Eagle Scout— Bronze Palm

February 26th:

One Second Class Scout—Board of Review for rank of 1st Class

One Star Scout— Rank of Life Scout

SECRETARY Becky George reported:

Banquet plans are coming together. Invitations were mailed and distributed to Scouts. A reminder email was sent to all scout families regarding RSVP deadline for February 26th. Vi Carter is aware of menu and a headcount will be given to her on Friday, February 27th so she can begin to shop for the food. On Saturday, February 28th, Becky George and Kelly Vining will meet at the Oxford Senior Center to make payment ($100.00) and look over the facility for seating, etc. Setup for banquet will take place Saturday, March 7th, the day of the banquet.

End of Year Picnic: June 4th at the George’s house; details to follow.

TREASURER — NO REPORT

PUBLIC RELATIONS — Jon reported:

Website has been revamped…check out the new, improved look of Troop #13 website! http://www.scoutingpages.org/us/pa/troop13/

EQUIPMENT — Brian Urig absent/ NO REPORT

FUNDRAISING — Ben Jackson reported:

Scouts Honor Card: Access Tech (www.scoutshonorcard.com) Ben will go ahead and order the minimum number of cards (150 cards) to begin the fundraising effort.

Jim Jordan suggested our Troop should consider a holding a Philly Pretzel ($1.00) and soda sale ($.75) fundraiser at local Walmart . He has purchased 120 pretzels/$400 in North East, MD. Setup tents on Sundays (are best) sale runs from 9AM — 5PM. Additional items needed would be plastic gloves and wax paper sheets.

OLD BUSINESS / NEW BUSINESS

Mark Vining and Jim George will handle the transfer of the Oxford Fire Hall sign to Troop #13.

On a motion by Bill Day, seconded by Committee, the meeting was adjourned @ 8:25 p.m. by a unanimous vote.

Next meeting will be held on Tuesday March 24th, 2009 @ 7:00 pm.
