What Do We Do
The purpose of the Troop is to help young boys grow into responsible young men. Scouting will teach them leadership, self-reliance and positive mental attitudes. We try to teach them to follow the Scout Oath and Scout Law through their life. We like to have fun while learning our Scouting skills.
Advancement is an exciting part of the Troop's program and we all take pride seeing our Scouts advance along the Trail to Eagle. As they attain their goal of Eagle rank, each is recognized by his own special ceremony, an occasion he will remember fondly the rest of his life.
The troop has campouts every month except August. Our campouts are backpack-style and are typically held on BSA properties. In addition to Trail to First Class advancement activities, the troop often has merit badge offerings at the campouts (i.e. Camping, Wilderness Survival, Pioneering, First Aid, Swimming, etc.). Hiking, Cooking and Leave No Trace skills and principles are emphasized on every campout.
- Monthly Outing Examples:
- February 2008; U.S.S. Lexington - The Troop traveled to Corpus Christi to spend the night on the WW II era aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Lexington. Along the way we spent the night at Randolph Air Force base in San Antonio. While participating in the live-aboard program all our Scouts earned the Aviation merit badge.
- January 2008; Camp Cherokee - Utensil - free cooking. Scouts spent the day preparing feasts without pots, pans, or stoves.
- December 2007; Camp Meisenbach - Hiked the Governor’s Trail and earned the Polar Bear Campout patch.
- November 2007; Camp Constantin - Wilderness survival campout. Scouts practiced their fire-making skills, explored ways to purify water and built shelters in which they spent the night.
- October 2007; Camp Wisdom - The Troop staffed the Stretcher Obstacle Course for North District’s Webelos Woods.
- September 2007; Camp Cherokee - Fishing in the morning and swimming/waterslide in the afternoon!
- August 2007; Super Saturday - The day was spent with Junior Leader Training (including watching "Master and Commander" and discussing leadership skills and challenges) and laying out the Troop’s yearly calendar. Followed by dinner at CiCi’s and an evening at FunFest.
